How to connect
- 1
Add the server to your MCP client
In your client’s settings, add a remote MCP server with the URL https://mcp.initialed.ai/mcp. It uses the Streamable HTTP transport.
- 2
Sign in and approve
Your client opens an Initialed AI sign-in page. Sign in (or create a free account), check the app name and the address you return to, and approve.
- 3
Ask for a contract
Ask your assistant to draft the agreement you need. It calls start_draft with your request and anything you already said.
- 4
Answer the questions
Your assistant shows Initialed AI’s questions and sends your answers back with answer_intake, then checks progress with get_draft until the draft is ready.
- 5
Open the draft
When it is ready you get the sections, the fields still to fill in and a link to the draft on initialed.ai to edit and download it.
Setup
Field names differ between clients, so check your client’s documentation for “remote MCP server”, “Streamable HTTP” or “custom connector”. These are the common shapes.
Clients that accept a remote server URL
Most current clients take a URL and handle OAuth for you.
{
"mcpServers": {
"initialed": {
"url": "https://mcp.initialed.ai/mcp"
}
}
}Clients that only run local (stdio) servers
Use a stdio-to-HTTP bridge such as the open-source mcp-remote package (requires Node.js). It opens the sign-in page in your browser.
{
"mcpServers": {
"initialed": {
"command": "npx",
"args": ["-y", "mcp-remote", "https://mcp.initialed.ai/mcp"]
}
}
}Try it with MCP Inspector
The official MCP Inspector lists the tools and lets you call them by hand. Choose Streamable HTTP, enter the URL and connect.

An unauthenticated request returns 401 with a WWW-Authenticate header pointing at the protected-resource metadata. Authorization is OAuth 2.1 with PKCE (S256) and dynamic client registration.
curl -i -X POST https://mcp.initialed.ai/mcp \
-H 'content-type: application/json' \
-d '{"jsonrpc":"2.0","id":1,"method":"initialize","params":{"protocolVersion":"2025-06-18","capabilities":{},"clientInfo":{"name":"my-client","version":"1.0"}}}'
# 401 → follow resource_metadata:
curl https://mcp.initialed.ai/mcp/.well-known/oauth-protected-resourceThings to ask your assistant
Your assistant decides when to use the Initialed AI tools. Mentioning Initialed AI by name helps.
- “Use Initialed AI to draft a mutual NDA between my company and a potential partner in Delaware.”
- “Draft a consulting agreement with Initialed AI for a six-week project, $9,000 fixed fee, Washington law.”
- “Start an Initialed AI draft of a month-to-month room rental agreement in Oregon.”
Tools
start_draft
Starts a draft. Inputs: request (what to draft, in the user’s words), optional jurisdiction, and optional details as label → value pairs. Returns a session_id.
get_draft
Checks a draft by session_id. While the draft is being written it waits up to about 40 seconds for news, then returns the stage, any questions for the user, and when ready the sections, open fields and a link.
answer_intake
Sends the user’s answers, keyed by question id, so drafting can continue.
Built for agents
get_draft long-polls, so an agent needs only a few calls while a draft is written, and every tool carries read-only and destructive hints.
Your account, your documents
The server acts as you, with the access you approve, so drafts land in your Initialed AI documents and your plan’s limits apply. Your assistant sees the questions, progress and a summary; the full contract stays on initialed.ai behind sign-in. Your contracts are never used to train AI models. Documents are processed by Initialed AI’s AI provider to produce a draft; see the Privacy Policy for how data is handled. Privacy Policy
Frequently asked
Which MCP clients work?
Any client that supports remote MCP servers over Streamable HTTP with OAuth sign-in and dynamic client registration. Clients that only run local servers can connect through a stdio bridge. Each AI platform sets its own rules for which plans can add custom servers.
Do I need an Initialed AI account?
Yes. You sign in when your client connects, and every draft lands in that account. A free account works.
What does it cost?
Drafts started through the MCP server follow the same rules and pricing as drafts started on initialed.ai. Drafts started from ChatGPT through the Initialed AI plugin open free.
Can it review contracts?
Not through MCP yet; the server offers drafting tools. To review a contract, upload it on initialed.ai or use the REST API, which has review and draft endpoints with webhooks.
How do I disconnect?
Remove the server in your MCP client. To revoke its access to your account as well, email hello@initialed.ai.
Is this legal advice?
No. Initialed AI is not a law firm and does not give legal advice. Contracts are drafted by AI from your answers, so read them carefully before you sign.
